Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required foe entry-level employment officers with state, county or municipal government, or with private enterprise.
Upon successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training program, the graduate should be able to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the criminal, traffic, civil, alcoholic beverage, and juvenile laws of the State.
- Exhibit an understanding of the laws governing proper use of law enforcement defensive tactics, firearm techniques, basic precision driving, and emergency first aid as a first responder
- Conduct criminal investigations and traffic crash investigations
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of a law enforcement officer’s interaction with victims, citizens, special needs subjects, and juveniles
- Demonstrate proper law enforcement patrol techniques, felony vehicle stop procedures, and building searches
- Exhibit appropriate skills necessary for case preparation, courtroom testimony, and courtroom demeanor
- Possess entry level skills of civil process and custody procedures
- Display the needed skills to handle crisis situations and domestic violence confrontations
- Communicate effectively through oral and written formats
- Exhibit professionalism and ethical conduct.
