While you’ll likely spend far more time in the lab than at an actual crime scene, forensic science is a crucial component of the criminal justice system. Forensics and crime scene degree programs teach students to collect, identify, classify, and analyze evidence for criminal investigations. Some areas of focus might include ballistics, fingerprinting, handwriting, and biochemistry. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, forensic science technicians earned an average salary of $47,680.
